Music
The Music Department at Hockerill is a vibrant hub of creativity and expression that plays a pivotal role in the culture of college life. Students can explore and develop their musical talents, whether they are seasoned performers or just beginning their musical journey. With a diverse range of choirs, and ensembles, the department not only enriches the academic experience but fosters a sense of community and belonging. The music department events such as concerts, shows and recitals are highlights of the college calendar, showcasing the exceptional talent and hard work of the students. The department’s commitment to musical excellence resonates throughout Hockerill, making it an indispensable part of the college’s identity.
Alongside the academic curriculum, Hockerill offer one-to-one music lessons that take place during the college day with a visiting professional musician.
See here for information on one-to-one music lessons
Being a part of an ensemble is a fantastic way to develop musicianship, interact with other musicians and have fun when learning an instrument. Students who have one-to-one lessons at Hockerill are expected to join at least one ensemble. Many of our Ensembles have the opportunity to go on UK/European Tours, Workshop Trips and be invited to participate in lots of Hockerill events. Below are just a few of our weekly lunchtime and after school clubs:
College Big Band
Senior and Junior Jazz Ensemble
College Orchestra
Brass Ensemble
College Concert Band
Theory Classes
Chapel Choir
College Choir
Hockerill Voices
Male Vocal Group
Karaoke Club
The music department has created a stunning music video of the classic carol "Hark! the Herald," featuring soloists Naomi Waritay and Luciana Forryan. They are accompanied by the College Big Band and College Choir, with a special arrangement by the award-winning Mr Charlie Bates for the Hockerill Big Band.
