Sport
At Hockerill, we place immense value on extracurricular sport as a cornerstone of our commitment to fostering an active, balanced lifestyle for our students. Participation in sport not only supports physical well-being but also nurtures essential life skills such as teamwork, resilience, and leadership, all of which contribute to the development of well-rounded individuals.
Our state-of-the-art facilities include a floodlit astroturf pitch for year-round training, a new sports hall with basketball courts, advanced cricket nets, and socketed netball posts, as well as indoor spaces like the renovated Octagon for yoga, fitness, and dance. Our teams compete proudly in inter-school competitions in rugby, football, hockey, netball, and basketball. Fixtures are scheduled midweek and on Saturdays, providing ample opportunities for students of all abilities to represent the school, excel, and grow in a supportive environment.
In addition to team sports, we offer a variety of staff-led clubs after school and during lunchtimes, including running, gymnastics, and BMX riding, ensuring there's something for everyone. Our Equipe sports competitions foster friendly, inclusive competition, promoting school spirit and camaraderie across year groups.
Our annual sports day celebrates athleticism, teamwork, and community, featuring traditional events such as javelin, long jump, high jump, and shot put as well as inclusive activities like boccia and curling. We also offer exciting sports tours within the UK and abroad, past tours have included trips to the USA, Malaysia, and South Africa.
A highlight of our sports calendar is the annual Sports Dinner, where we celebrate student achievements with awards and a festive evening. At Hockerill, sport is accessible, enjoyable, and integral to student life.
