Celebrating Lunar New Year

Celebrating Lunar New Year

Hockerill has marked Lunar New Year with a series of vibrant celebrations and activities across the school.

On Wednesday and Thursday lunchtimes, our Mandarin language teacher, Mr. Fok, led Calligraphy workshops, introducing students to this traditional Chinese art form. Calligraphy has been a cherished practice in Chinese culture for centuries, especially during Lunar New Year, with characters symbolizing health, wealth, and prosperity. Meanwhile, students in Diversity Club embraced the festive spirit by crafting paper lanterns, a symbol of hope and good fortune.

Canterbury House also had the opportunity to learn and play Mahjong with Mr. Fok. The students enjoyed discovering this traditional Chinese game while picking up a few Chinese words along the way, making for a fun and engaging experience.

The celebrations extended to the Refectory, where students enjoyed a special Lunar New Year menu, including Sweet and Sour Pork with Rice, Spring Rolls, Bao Buns with Sticky Crispy Chicken, and Kimchi.

We wish all members of our College community a joyful and prosperous Year of the Snake!
