Celebrating Books and Imagination: Highlights from World Book Day

The excitement from this year’s World Book Day activities is still buzzing, and I hope everyone has had as much fun as we did. The week was filled with engaging events, including our Blind Date with a Book, where over 60 ‘surprise’ books were borrowed by students eager to discover something new. They will now read their books and 'Rate their Date' to see if they've found their perfect match, with a small edible reward waiting for completed review slips at the Library counter. The Famous Readers Quiz was a hit as well, with students guessing which celebrity was reading each passage.
Year 12 students, including Tunmi, Stacey, Gethin, Liana, Johnny, Temi, Felix, and Diana, presented engaging World Book Day Assemblies, sharing their love of reading with different year groups. Students in KS3 and KS4 also enjoyed serialised stories during Form Time, recorded by our Year 12 Reading Mentors. Sixth Formers were treated to a chapter from Katherine Rundell's The Golden Mole and Other Vanishing Treasures.
Our Reading Nooks allowed students to unwind as staff members, including Mrs. Proudfoot, Mrs. Lewis, Mr. Dinwiddy, and Mrs. Whitby, gave up part of their lunch hour to read to groups of students in the Menet Room. The week ended with ‘Drop Everything and Read’, where everyone had the chance to enjoy a quiet reading period. World Book Day vouchers were also distributed, and a Book Sale in aid of RNIB Talking Books is still ongoing in the Library.
A huge thanks to all the staff for their support, whether by dressing up or sharing what they are currently reading. The staff posters around the Cloister have provided plenty of inspiration for our ‘To Be Read’ lists!
It has been a truly memorable experience for the entire school!
