A Visit from Josh Dean MP

Hockerill was delighted to welcome Josh Dean MP, the Member of Parliament for Hertford and Bishop's Stortford, for his first visit to our school. During the visit, Josh was given a tour of the school, where some areas in need of improvement were highlighted.
The day also included a productive discussion focusing on important educational topics such as SEND funding, Ofsted, safeguarding, and the broader effects of Brexit on the school. Local issues were also addressed, including pedestrian safety near the Hockerill lights and the lack of cycling infrastructure in Bishop’s Stortford.
Josh spent 45 minutes with a group of eight Year 12 students, giving them the opportunity to speak with him about life as an MP, Westminster, and ways to get involved in politics. He gave incredibly positive feedback about our students, praising the quality of the questions and the engaging dialogue that took place.
One exciting outcome from the visit is Josh’s offer to host a school trip to the Houses of Parliament, which the school looks forward to organising soon.
Accompanied by his team members, Angela and Mary, Josh’s visit was a valuable opportunity to engage with our local MP and discuss issues impacting the school and the local community.
We look forward to continuing this positive relationship with Josh and his team, and to working together on projects that benefit both the school and the wider community.
