Hockerill Ski Trip: A Week of Adventure in Zell am See, Austria

Over the Easter break, 40 students from Years 8, 9, and 10, accompanied by six staff members, set off on an unforgettable skiing adventure to Zell am See, Austria. Staying at the beautiful Hotel Latini, our group embarked on a week full of skiing, après-ski activities, and lasting memories.
The ski trip kicked off on Saturday, 5th April, and the following five days saw the students mastering their skills on the slopes. With expert guidance from ski instructors, they tackled a range of slopes—from the gentler blue runs to the more challenging red and black runs. Most of our skiing took place on the stunning Schmittenhöhe mountain, but on Wednesday, the group ventured to the Kitzsteinhorn glacier in nearby Kaprun. Here, the students experienced skiing at a whole new level, with breathtaking views from the 3000-metre-high glacier. It was a truly awe-inspiring experience that will no doubt stay with them for years to come.
But it wasn’t all about skiing! Each evening, the students enjoyed a variety of après-ski activities, including a relaxing visit to the Tauern Spa for a little luxury, thrilling tobogganing on the Maisi Flitzer, and cheering on the local ice hockey team in an intense grudge match where Zell am See emerged victorious. The trip was rounded off with a delightful visit to the local town for ice creams and crêpes.
Throughout the trip, the students displayed exceptional behaviour and enthusiasm, fully embracing the spirit of adventure. It was a joy to see the students develop their skiing skills, bond with one another, and immerse themselves in the experience. The best feedback of all came from students themselves, who were already asking their parents when they could go on a family ski trip!
As an IB World School, we are proud to provide students with experiences that not only foster a love for learning but also encourage personal growth, international-mindedness, and a sense of responsibility—values that were clearly demonstrated throughout this trip.
We are already looking forward to the next adventure!
