Introduction to Curriculum
Hockerill Anglo-European College offers a unique academic experience, proudly teaching the International Baccalaureate’s Middle Years Programme at Key Stage 3, moving into a very broad and full range of GCSEs at Key Stage 4 and the globally recognised International Baccalerette Diploma Programme in the Sixth Form. At Key Stage 3 the vast majority of our students are taught two modern foreign languages from a diet of French. German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin and Spanish on offer. To add to our uniqueness, a number of students are also taught History and Geography in French and German during Year 9 and 10.
Year 10 and 11 students are prepared for an EBACC curriculum culminating in their GCSE Examinations. All subjects our lessons are still taught through the ‘Approaches to Teaching and Learning’ methodology of the International Baccalaureate. Concept-based learning through global contexts remains key to the students’ learning throughout their time at Hockerill. GCSE attainment and progress are high at the College and put Hockerill among the top performers nationally in the league tables.
The wonderful IB Diploma Programme is our offer in the Sixth Form and this broad and balanced curriculum is widely regarded as the best Sixth Form education available in the world. As with GCSEs, IB results are above world average which is no mean feat for a state funded institution and we are extremely proud of our students and staff.
